Construction on a $4-million dollar jetty and pontoon is set to commence shortly on the northern end of The Spit on the Gold Coast.
The contract has been awarded to a local company, Alder Constructions, and will get underway in the middle of this year.
The brand-new facility will be situated in the sheltered waters of Marine Stadium and provide transport access to Doug Jennings Park, Moondarewa Spit and the Seaway Promenade.
It will be available for use by recreational and commercial vessels and will also have a ferry stop which will eventually become part of a regular service.
The project is part of the implementation of State Government’s $60-million The Spit Master Plan.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Steven Miles says it’s a much-needed facility for the area.
“The Spit is surrounded by water on three sides, so it makes sense for it to be easier for people to access it by boat,” Mr Miles said.
“During consultation on The Spit Master Plan the community told us traffic congestion is a major concern and they wanted to see more transport options for accessing The Spit.”

Alder Constructions General Manager Dean Cheffers says it’s was a privilege to be involved with another iconic local infrastructure project.

Construction of the jetty and pontoon is anticipated to commence on site mid-year and be complete by November 2022.
