A group of fed-up Gold Coast residents are expected to gather in Varsity Lakes tonight amid concerns about a rise in crime in the area.
Councillor Hermann Vorster and local MP Michael Hart are hosting the crime forum, following a spike in break-ins, vandalism and arson in the suburb.
They’re urging locals to attend the emergency meeting to share their ideas and solutions to make the area feel safe again.
“Every day, locals share with me their stories about break-ins, vandalism, arson, and assault,” Councillor Vorster said.
“It has never felt this unsafe in our own neighbourhood. And we can’t let it get worse.
“This town hall meeting is your opportunity to join the campaign for change… Come along to share your experiences and ideas to tackle neighbourhood crime.
“I want to hear from you directly so I can champion our local priorities. Local MP Michael Hart will also join us to answer your questions.”
It comes just weeks after hundreds of concerned residents gathered for a similar forum at The Surrounds in Helensvale following a serious escalation in crime in the Estate.
