Gold Coast pop-star turned swim-star Cody Simspon has well and truly kicked off his newfound swimming career.
After 10 years away from the pool, the 25-year-old had made his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham.
His Gold-Coast-based family have been cheering him on the whole way.
Sister, Alli Simpson, has told Channel Seven he’s “exceeded all expectations”.
“He’s just absolutely done amazing and we just couldn’t be prouder,”
“It’s insane to watch, it really is.”
This morning, the Gold Coaster lined up for the 100m butterfly alongside Australia’s Matt Temple.
He made his second-quickest time of his career, just shy of his personal best of 51.79 seconds – finishing in 5th place.
Meanwhile, we may even see a few songs from the musician come out of the games.
“I think Cody finds inspiration for music everywhere,” Alli says.
“So, I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was swimming and then also writing something on the side, so you never really know.”
Mum, Angie Simpson, told Channel Seven she reckons we may even get a “love song” out of him.
Cody is currently dating darling of the pool Emma McKeon.
