LATEST @ 2.00 PM | A toddler has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after being hit by a car outside the Southport Library.
The vehicle mounted the kerb before reversing into shade sails outside the building along Suter Street around 1pm.
Both the little girl and a man aged in his 30s suffered head injuries, with the adult also taken to hospital in a serious condition.
The two elderly occupants of the vehicle are being treated at the scene for shock.
EARLIER @ 1.30 PM | An emergency operation is unfolding in Southport after a vehicle crashed into the local library, causing part of the roof to collapse.
A female toddler and adult male have been caught up in the chaos along Suter Street, with the pair believed to have become trapped under the rubble.
They have since been freed and are currently being assessed by paramedics at the scene.
Two elderly patients, believed to have been the occupants of the car involved in the incident, are also being treated by paramedics.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson said the vehicle is believed to have accidentally reversed into the building.
