Council has confirmed it will work to repair Burleigh Heads after it was badly damaged in a surf competition.

The Australian Boardriders Battle was held in Burleigh over the weekend causing damage to the grass, with the sodden grounds then being ripped up by the heavy machinery used to bump out.

Council says the organisers will need to foot the repair bill.

“City officers will inspect the site and assess any damage to the park once Australian Boardriders Battle organisers have finished packing down later this week,” a council spokesperson says.

“Event organisers are responsible for all costs associated with rectifying any damage as a result of the event, including grass restoration.”

It comes ahead of the Gold Coast Pro being held in Burleigh Heads from May 3-13, with set-up to begin early next week.

City crews will conduct minor repairs where possible prior to the World Surf League event beginning set up.
