Gold Coast residents had to get out of bed on Wednesday to face the coldest morning of the year.

Temperatures dropped to 8.1 degrees at the Gold Coast Seaway just after 4am, officially the city’s coolest start in 2023.

It comes as no surprise, with winter literally just around the corner (tomorrow).

The icy start had locals reaching for an extra blanket, with hinterland residents also shivering through 0.3C around 6.30am.

Coolangatta also got down to 5.5C just before 6am.

It’s expected to heat up during the day, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting lovely sunny conditions across the city with a top of 23 degrees.

Temperatures will again drop overnight before cloud and rain bring warmer temperatures over the weekend and into next week.
