A man has been charged with the murder of a 69-year-old man whose “mummified” body was found at a home on the Gold Coast earlier this year.
Officers made the grim discovery inside a property along Edinburgh Street in Benowa on April 17, after being called to conduct a welfare check by the man’s interstate relatives.
In an appeal for information earlier this month, Detective Acting Inspector Mark Proctor confirmed the remains were those of ACT man Tomislav Nemes, who moved to Queensland in 2018.
He said the remains were discovered in an “advanced state of decomposition” and that he had been living with his 70-year-old wife and 48-year-old stepson in the house at the time of his death.
He said Mr Nemes was living with his 70-year-old wife and 48-year-old stepson at the time of his death, which police believe may have occurred 12 months prior.
Following ongoing investigations, detectives from Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch and Homicide Investigation Unit arrested a 48-year-old man in Southport yesterday.
He has since been charged with one count of murder and is expected to appear before Southport Magistrates Court today.
Investigations are ongoing, with police releasing vision of the welfare check earlier this year in an appeal for any information which could assist the investigation.
