Four teenagers have been arrested after a security guard was stabbed with a meat cleaver outside a popular shopping centre on the Gold Coast this morning.
The 57-year-old man suffered multiple stab wounds in the daylight attack at Westfield Helensvale just before 8am on Friday.
Queensland Police said the guard was ushering a group of juveniles out of a supermarket at the centre when one of them turned on him.
“A 19-year-old male produced a large meat cleaver and started to attack the security guard,” Acting Superintendent Mark Proctor said.
“The security guard received a large wound to the abdomen and two wounds to his legs”.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
His attackers fled the scene in an alleged stolen black Holden Trax which was tracked down in Beenleigh a short time later.
A 19-year-old man, 17-year-old man, and two girls aged 16 and 13, have been taken into custody and are currently assisting police with inquiries.
A crime scene has been declared at the shopping centre as investigations continue.
