LATEST @ 2.00PM | Police have found a suspicious device during a raid at a property in Nerang, which forced the suburb into lockdown.
The discovery sparked an emergency declaration at around 11am Friday, which has since been revoked.
Several streets were thrown into lockdown during the ordeal, with an exclusion zone setup.
“Police attended the address shortly after 9am to execute a search warrant, locating a suspect device,” a QPS statement reads.
“Specialist police attended and resolved the incident and the emergency declaration was revoked at 12pm.”
Police have made no further mention of the man they were negotiating with, despite it being mentioned in the initial report.
Investigations are ongoing.
EARLIER @ 12.00PM | Police have made an emergency declaration in Nerang due to an unfolding siege.
Specialist officers are currently negotiating with a man, after attending the address at around 9.30am.
The situation has forced multiple streets into lockdown, with an exclusion zone in place for New Street, Cayuga Street, Miskin Street to Kotara Street and across to Gilston Road.
A Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) was declared by police at 11am.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors until further notice.
