A high-rise apartment building in Southport has had to be evacuated overnight after a fire broke out.

The blaze is believed to have started in some rubbish in the bathroom of one of the units at the complex along White Street.

Firies got the call around 8.00pm, rushing to the scene where they were able to extinguish the blaze quickly.

It forced around 30 people out of their apartments as crews responded.
