LATEST @ February 14 | A man has now been charged after sparking an emergency in Robina.
Police swarmed the area around 11.30am on Tuesday following reports of an armed man in the vicinity of the train station.
As a result, the nearby Robina Hospital and multiple schools and businesses in the area were placed into lockdown while officers swarmed the area in search of the suspect.
He was eventually tracked down and arrested around 1pm, with a gel blaster allegedly located in his possession.
The man has now been charged with going armed to cause fear.
He will front court later this month.
EARLIER @ February 13 | An armed man has been arrested after sparking an emergency situation in Robina.
Multiple police were called to Robina Railway Station around 11.30am on Tuesday following reports of a man armed with a firearm.
As a result, the nearby Robina Hospital and multiple schools in the area were placed into lockdown while officers swarmed the area in search of the suspect.
The man was taken into custody without incident just after 1.00pm, with officers uncovering a gel blaster in his possession.
A Gold Coast Health spokesperson has confirmed the lockdown at the hospital has since been lifted following the arrest.
“A police incident that was underway at Robina Hospital and Robina Health Precinct has now been resolved,” the spokesperson said.
“In an abundance of caution, the facilities were in lockdown; this has now been lifted.
“While ambulance arrivals were being diverted away from Robina Hospital, we are now returning to business as usual.
“Walk-in emergency presentations were being accepted throughout the incident.
“Patient and staff safety remains our priority”.
Police have confirmed investigations are ongoing, with charges yet to be laid.
