Director Stephan Elliott has confirmed the long-awaited sequel to the Australian cult classic, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, three decades after its original release. Original cast members are set to return, with Elliott expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming journey.
“We’re not repeating ourselves,” he declared, revealing plans to commence filming in Australia for a fresh adventure. “The original cast is on board, I’ve got a script that everybody likes, and we’re still working out deals… It’s happening.”
The original film premiered at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, featuring Hugo Weaving, Terence Stamp, and Guy Pearce as drag performers Bernadette, Felicia, and Mitzi, respectively. Their escapades across the desert aboard the iconic Priscilla captivated audiences with disco hits and colourful characters.
Elliott, marking the film’s 30th anniversary, expressed excitement for the sequel, titled Priscilla the Party!, assuring fans of a soundtrack blending classic disco tunes with contemporary favourites. Moreover, he hinted at the involvement of Mitzi’s now-grown son, envisioning a new generation of characters to complement the journey.
