You’re favourite stars will come out of hibernation, tv talk shows will return and movie release dates will be set again as Hollywood looks to get back to business with an agreement being reached in the Writers Strike.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Writers Guild of America and the groups who represent the big studios and streaming providers have reached a “tentative” new deal that would spell the end of the 146 day shutdown.

“We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional,” the WGA told its members in a statement. “With meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.”

Hollywood went on strike on May 2 in support of writers asking for greater compensation for their work in the streaming era and rules around the future use of artificial intelligence.

The late night US talk shows are likely to be the first ones back on air, with early October being floated as the return date.

“We want to come back ASAP,” an insider told Variety.  “I think everybody’s leaning forward, like they’re ready to go…. I would look for them to return on October 2 or October 9. I think that they are going to be very motivated to get their crews working again.”

It’s also great news for our local film industry as the numerous movies and tv shows being filmed on our shores can commence again.
