Shake, Rattle and Roll Gold Coast! The trailer for our long-awaited Elvis Biopic has dropped and we can’t help falling in love with it!
If the trailer’s anything to go by, it’s safe to say Baz Luhrmann’s done it again, using his magic to transform our beloved (?) Arundel tip into the deep American south.
Aptly named ‘Elvis’, the trailer shows the young star – played by Austin Butler – on his way to becoming the King of Rock n Roll across the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Set in Memphis, Tennesse (but actually filmed right here at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast), Luhrmann’s glitzy and colourful tone already stands out in what’s sure to be a movie for the ages.
The show’s star, Austin Butler, recently revealing he was taking voice lessons six days a week to try and sound just like Elvis prior to filming – and well, you can tell!
He stars alongside Tom Hanks who plays as Elvis’ notorious manager Colonel Tom Parker and introduces himself as the “villain of this story” in the first moments of the trailer.
The film’s production was a bumpy one for the cast and crew, with filming derailed and delayed several times due to Covid-19.
The Gold Coast probably remembers well that Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were amongst our first local cases of Covid all the way back in March 2020.
But finally, after years of always being on our minds, we’ve got a final product to look forward to – June 23 is the release date!
Beloved Aussie director Baz Luhrmann – famous for Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet – posted to social media overnight announcing the trailer’s release.
“I thought of a title for the film… ELVIS,” he said in a teaser post, 15 minutes before dropping the trailer.
“What do you think? Makes a lot of sense…”
And then after the longest 15 minutes of our lives, probably…
“Without further ado, it’s time to TCB⚡️ so here’s the trailer made with TLC❤️
“Oh, and ONLY IN THEATERS, June 24.”
All we can say is – CHILLS! Check it out yourself!
