Introducing the next chapter in the Karate Kid saga, Sony Pictures is gearing up for a thrilling addition to the iconic franchise, bringing back legends Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio in reprisals of their beloved characters. Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, renowned for his work on acclaimed teen dramas such as I’m Not Okay with This and The End of the F***ing World, this untitled feature aims to seamlessly blend and advance the narrative of the original series.
Launching a global search for the protagonist, Chan and Macchio kick-started the quest with a video of the two together, this is already blowing fans of Karate Kid’s minds. Penned by Rob Lieber, known for his contributions to Sony’s Peter Rabbit and Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day, the plot details are currently shrouded in mystery, concealed within the depths of the dojo.
What is known, however, is that the upcoming instalment will shift the action to the East Coast, focusing on a Chinese teenager who discovers strength and purpose through martial arts under the guidance of a resilient and sagacious mentor.
Produced by Karen Rosenfelt, the feature is scheduled for release on December 13, 2024, with plans for a spring shoot. The Karate Kid, originating in 1984 with an unexpected success, has seen multiple sequels and a resurgence in popularity with the Cobra Kai series, breathing new life into the Miyagi-verse.
