The Lakers’ home game against the Hornets originally scheduled for today has been postponed because of the raging LA fires, with a new date and time yet to be set.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick has been personally impacted by the fires in the Pacific Palisades area, sadly losing his home, as reported by ESPN.
Thankfully, Redick and his family evacuated the area on Wednesday and are safe.
The Lakers took to X saying that, “We’re heartbroken for Los Angeles. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this unimaginable situation.”
“And our gratitude is with the first responders and all of you who come together when we need each other the most.
“Tonight’s game will be rescheduled to focus on what matters most today. We’re with you, L.A.”

When speaking to media before Tuesday’s road loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Redick said “Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated. I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family”.
“From the sound of things, with the winds coming, I know a lot of people are scared. So I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and hope everybody stays safe.”
“The entire NBA family sends its thoughts and support to the community of Los Angeles during this challenging time,” the NBA said in its statement.

This is the second game in Los Angeles that’s been postponed because of the devastating situation.
An NHL matchup between the LA Kings and Calgary Flames at Crypto.com Arena has also been rescheduled.
The Lakers are still set to host the San Antonio Spurs next week, while the neighbouring Sacramento Kings are on an extended road trip.
Meanwhile, LA Clippers star Kawhi Leonard left the team’s road trip on Thursday, to be with family who had to evacuate.
The NFL is keeping a close eye on things too, with the upcoming playoff game between the Minnesota Vikings and LA Rams in Inglewood needing to be moved, according to reports Arizona is being considered as a backup location.
As of now, officials don’t know what caused the fires, but they’ve already burned through 30,000 acres. The destruction has forced thousands to flee the area, leaving behind widespread damage.
