In a smartphone universe that is vastly dominated by companies like Apple, Samsung and Google it’s easy to forget that there are other players that have been around for decades that still make innovations in the mobile tech space. One such company is Motorola which has recently launched a folding phone that is worth entering the conversation. (You remember them right the “Hello Moto” company).

The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is a standout device that combines innovative technology with a sleek design. At the heart of its appeal is the largest external display of any flip phone, which enhances user interaction and creativity. This 4.0-inch pOLED screen allows users to run nearly any app without needing to unfold the device, making it not only stylish but also highly functional. I always considered flip phones a tad gimmicky, but the practicality of pocket space combined with a real usability is actually something to be commended.

I worked with the Spring Green coloured model for a couple of weeks which is very stylish, it also comes in Midnight Blue and a Peach Fuzz. The phone is built with premium materials, including a soft vegan leather finish and Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus®, ensuring both durability and aesthetic appeal. Now why the leather finish is important is that it cuts out the device from sliding around or even out of your pocket unnoticed, other totally glossy models can easily do that and it’s too late before you notice.

One of the most impressive features of the Razr 50 Ultra is its dual 50MP camera system, which includes a telephoto zoom lens. This setup is complemented by advanced AI capabilities, such as Action Shot and Super Zoom, which enhance photography experiences by adjusting settings based on lighting conditions and distance. The Flex View mode allows for creative shooting angles, enabling hands-free capture and dynamic video recording. Users can enjoy features like Photo Booth mode, which stitches together multiple images into a shareable collage, making it ideal for social media posts.

The device’s performance is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The battery life is adequate, with a 4,000 mAh capacity that typically lasts a full day under normal usage conditions. However, heavy users may find themselves needing to charge more frequently due to the power demands of its large displays and advanced features.

Overall, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is a good smartphone with great features. A fine creative tool for users who appreciate both style and functionality. While it may not push the boundaries of performance compared to traditional smartphones, its unique foldable design and innovative AI features make it an appealing choice for those looking to blend practicality with cutting-edge technology. My pocket space thanks them.
