Longtime Home and Away favourite Lynne McGranger is bidding farewell to Summer Bay after nearly 33 years! Since joining the show in 1993, McGranger has played Irene Roberts, the iconic character who’s survived everything from alcoholism and breast cancer to a plane crash and even prison.
“After almost 33 years in my dream role, working with people who’ve become family, it’s bittersweet to close this chapter,” McGranger, 72, said in a statement. She added, “A massive, heartfelt thank you to the fans for your continued love and support.”

But don’t worry, Irene won’t be killed off in a dramatic exit. Instead, the show’s producers assure that her departure will leave the door open for a potential return in the future.

And while it may be hard to imagine Summer Bay without Irene Roberts, let’s take a look back at some of her most memorable moments on Home and Away.
Irene’s battle with alcoholism: One of the most powerful and emotional storylines for Irene was her struggle with alcohol addiction. Her journey to sobriety was not easy, but it showed her strength and determination to overcome her demons.
