Over the long weekend Star Wars held a celebration in Japan. Allowing lovers of the franchise to experience cool props from the films, see some amazing artwork, and catch some conferences with some cast & crew of many Star Wars projects. But with this celebration came a huge amount of announcements of new projects coming up and updates from projects previously announced. Ryan Gosling to lead a new Star Wars film

A new Star Wars film by director Shawn Levy (Director of Deadpool & Wolverine) will be coming to theatres in May of 2027. The film will star Hollywood mega-star Ryan Gosling as its protagonist and will be the first film to take place after the events of Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker.

Maul Gets His Own Animated TV Series

Maul, formerly Darth Maul, is the next character to receive their own animated series. The fan-favourite character has featured heavily in previous animated works such as The Clone Wars and Rebels. To be voiced by original voice actor and Star Wars mega-nerd Sam Witwer, the series is set after the events of The Clone Wars and will see Maul “plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.” The series is set to drop sometime in 2026.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie Update

We get our first look at the upcoming Star Wars film The Mandalorian & Grogu, which features the lead characters from The Mandalorian Disney+ series. The film is set to drop on May 22, 2026 and will be the first film in the Star Wars universe since Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker back in 2019. The film is being written and directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man & The Mandalorian) with both Dave Filoni & George Lucas assisting in the writing room. The films cast has also grown with Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) & Sigourney Weaver (Alien) joining.

Ahsoka Season 2 Update

After a successful first season, Ahsoka season 2 was green-lit a second season fairly quickly. However, after Ray Stevenson passed away (the actor who played lead villain Baylan Skoll), the series halted for the cast and crew to mourn, regroup and replan. It was announced that former Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann (The Hound), would be stepping in to fill close friend Ray Stevensons boots. It was also announced that Hayden Christensen will be returning as Anakin Skywalker in the second season.
