In a tech safety alert that’s grabbed headlines, Kmart has issued a recall for its much-talked-about Anko Smart Tag. Why? It turns out this handy Bluetooth GPS tracker, that syncs seamlessly with Apple’s Find My app, missed a crucial safety memo. The root of the problem? A potentially hazardous button battery that lacks essential warning labels.
The oversight, identified by Product Safety Australia, means the Smart Tag doesn’t meet the strict information standards required, posing a real danger especially to the little ones. If children manage to get hold of the battery, the risk ranges from choking to severe internal injuries – issues so grave, they could escalate to life-threatening levels in a matter of hours.
What’s Kmart’s advice to consumers? For starters, keep the gadget away from children, pronto. And to ensure you’re clued in on all the safety dos and don’ts, touch base with Kmart. They’re on standby to provide the vital safety information you might have missed.
This recall affects all Smart Tags sold country-wide with the product number 2024/20082, from December 28, 2023, to January 16, 2024.
