Television host Larry Emdur has won the coveted Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television.

The 59-year-old, who has been gracing our TV screens for almost 40 years, also won the Bert Newton award for most popular presenter.

Despite his four-decade long career in television, the Logie gongs were the first for Emdur, who joked about being the “most axed man in television”.

“I love being in TV … I’ve never done anything else and I’ve never wanted to do anything else,” Emdur said.

The Morning Show and The Chase host beat out the likes of Tony Armstrong, Robert Irwin, Andy Lee and Asher Keddie for the gold statue.

It comes as the Queensland-filmed Netflix series Boy Swallows Universe stole the show, winning a whopping five out of a potential ten awards.

Young star Felix Cameron also stole Australia’s hearts as he broke down in tears whilst accepting the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent.
