The Gold Coast is bracing for another downpour with several days of heavy rain forecast for the city.

The low-pressure system that has brought widespread flooding to parts of western and central Queensland is now making its way towards the southeast.

Another 100 to 200mm is forecast for inland areas on Thursday, further impacting many towns that are already cut off.

That system is set to begin making its presence felt here today ahead of a very wet weekend.

“We could see falls of 100 to 200 mm on coastal parts from the Central Queensland coast, south to the New South Wales border,” forecaster Helen Reid said.

BOM is currently forecasting up to 145mm of rain for the Gold Coast between now and Sunday.

“The heaviest rain will likely be on Friday and Saturday and as catchments are already wet, especially in northern New South Wales and southeast Queensland, we could see increases in flash and riverine flooding, depending on exactly where those heaviest falls occur.”
