The Premier will today unveil Queensland’s final Olympics plan, revealing which towns and cities will host sporting events.
It comes almost four years after Brisbane won the hosting rights for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Premier David Crisafulli will release the details of the 100-day infrastructure review at the Future Brisbane event from 12.20pm after it was signed off by State Cabinet on Monday.
It’s not known if Hockey and Rowing Australia have been successful following their last-ditch legacy appeals.
Both sporting bodies were calling for their events to be hosted on the Gold Coast at the hockey centre in Labrador and Hinze Dam for paddling events.
It comes after reports emerged the croc-infested Fitzroy River in Rockhampton had been chosen for Rowing, while Ballymore’s Rugby Stadium was tipped to showcase hockey.
A new stadium at Victoria Park is widely expected to be confirmed as the Games’ stadium showpiece, despite the LNP leader pledging no new stadiums in the lead up to the last election.
David Crisafulli is remaining confident people will get on board with the new Olympic venue plan.
“I have this view that if you provide the information and the reasons behind your decision, whatever those decisions are, I think overwhelmingly people will respect where we’re going,” the Premier said.
“And we will outline a plan to make sure that we can deliver generational infrastructure for every square inch of the state”.
