Gold Coast residents opposed to the so-called “View Tax” will once again descend on City Hall ahead of today’s full council meeting.
Council last month backed the policy following a report which found it only impacted 4 per cent of ratepayers and that 96 per cent would pay more if the plan was scrapped.
However, impacted residents in high-rise buildings are refusing to give up the fight.
Around 500 protestors are set to march on council this morning to voice their anger.
“We’ve had the Police, they’re obviously worried about the numbers that could turn up here. We had 250 – 300 people last time (and) they’re expecting 500 and they’ve changed the routes because of that for our safety today,” Protest organiser David Robinson told Seven.
Impacted residents insist they’re being unfairly targeted.
“They’ve picked on 4 per cent of the population up here. It’s a gutless thing to do especially when you’re talking about pensioners who have lived in the building behind me for 3o or 40 years,” Mr Robinson said.
“They’re not millionaires as this rotten council will tell you. (Tom) Tate has told everyone that we live in $15 million mansions.
“It’s just total lies.”
