The LNP insists it will deliver on its election promise of establishing a police beat in Burleigh Heads.

It comes amid a rise in crime and anti-social behaviour in the beachside suburb over the past year, sparking calls from locals and businesses for more to be done to protect them.

Despite vowing to establish a permanent police beat during the election, the fate of the beat remains up in the air, with reports it’s going to be delayed due to a Queensland Police budget blowout.

However, Burleigh MP Hermann Vorster has come out this week, assuring residents it will happen.

“This is my number one priority, because locals are counting on strong action to make sure Burleigh is safe,” he said.

“Not just for them, but for the many visitors who call Burleigh their backyard”.

Vorster said the local police beat is part of a wider $4.1 million safety pledge, which he is determined to make good on.

“A permanent police beat is just part of the puzzle,” he said.

“We’re also committed to delivering $1 million to safety initiatives on Friday and Saturday nights, and a further $500,000 to expand Council’s safety camera network”.
