There’s been a lucky escape for two hikers who became stranded in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

The man and woman sparked a major search and rescue mission around 5pm on Monday after activating an emergency device alert.

It’s understood the pair were hiking through the Warrie Circuit at Springbrook National Park when the woman, aged in her 60s, suffered a medical episode.

The man and woman were located about five hours later, around 9.40pm, and were assisted out.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Almost two dozen emergency service personnel were involved in the operation.
