A 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged after a 63-year-old Coles supermarket worker was stabbed in frightening scenes in Ipswich.
The supermarket was plunged into lockdown following the brazen daylight attack at the Yamanto Central shopping centre around 5.25pm on Monday.
According to police, the 63-year-old woman was working at Coles when she was allegedly stabbed in the back by the young boy.
“Around 5.22pm, a 13-year-old boy allegedly approached a staff member at a supermarket near Warwick Road and stabbed her with a knife,” police said.
“It will be further alleged the boy fled the scene before he was detained by members of the public nearby a short time later”.
The victim was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
The teen has this morning been charged with attempt to murder and is due to appear before Ipswich Children’s Court today.
