This year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale is shaping up to be one of the most successful ever, with one horse already smashing the all-time record price.
The colt by champion sire Snitzel went under the hammer for a whopping $2.8 million on Day Three of the sales event.
Presented by Widden Stud, the colt was purchased by champion trainer Ciaron Maher Bloodstock following an enthralling bidding battle.
“He looks really early and sharp,” Maher said following the purchase.
“A great pedigree from a quality family with a sharp pedigree.
“Bred on a good farm and hopefully he can get back to a farm in good time.”
The eye-watering price tag eclipses the former sale record of $2.7 million set just two years ago.
“The quality you’ve always got to pay for… The top ones always get stronger. We thought he was one of the colts of the sale,” Maher added.
“It was probably a bit more than expected but the competition is always strong on those big ones”.
So far, more than $144 million has been traded across three days, with 521 lots sold at an impressive average price of $277,351.
“It’s an outstanding feather in our cap to have a new record price here at Magic Millions of $2.8 million,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.
“There was spirited bidding on him from five or six different parties well above $1.5 million, so there’s obviously great depth to the market.”
Day Four, the first Howden Super Session, will commence at 10am this morning.
“So we’re going to sell all day, we start at 10am, we sell 300 lots, every other day we’ve sold 240, so we see today’s sale going into the evening until about 7.30pm,” Bowditch said.
“It will be a lot of fun, we’re going to have food trucks out at the complex, we’ll have bars, so I urge the Gold Coast to come and check it out.
“There will be some great horses going through the ring making a lot of money, so it will be a great spectacle for people to see if they haven’t been to the Bundall sales complex before!”
