Four Australians are in critical condition in a Fiji hospital after suffering suspected alcohol poisoning at a popular resort.

The Australians, aged between 18 and 56 were guests at the Warwick Resort on Fiji’s Coral Coast, reportedly to attend a wedding.

The group is understood to have fallen ill on Saturday and taken to hospital before being transferred to a larger facility on Sunday.

Local Police attended the hospital on Sunday and took samples of alcohol from the resort.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the families of two Australians.

DFAT has also updated its travel advice for Fiji, urging travellers to be alert to the potential risks of drink spiking and methanol poisoning and to seek urgent medical help if people suspect drink spiking.
