Council has voted to continue investigating the controversial plan to build a cableway in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Majority of councillors at the final full council meeting of the year on Tuesday sensationally voted to backflip on the decision to put a hold on the project due to environmental concerns.
Ten leaders threw their support behind getting the plan back on track, while five councillors including Glenn Tozer, Peter Young, Josh Martin, Naomi Fowler and Nick Marshall were against it.
“I don’t think I can support development inside it,” Councillor Tozer said, declaring Springbrook was a World Heritage area.
Council will now look to work with the State Government to provide a conceptual design for Springbrook.
A total of $500,000 has also been set aside to develop a community consultation strategy.
