It’s been a wet and wild night for parts of the Gold Coast, who have been smashed by over a month’s worth of rain in just a few hours.

The southern part of the city appears to have copped the brunt of the severe weather, with 167 millimetres of rain recorded in Tugun overnight.

Coolangatta has also copped 152mm, while 133mm has been dumped at Palm Beach.

The heavy downpours have led to some major issues on southern Gold Coast roads this morning, with a number of roadways flooded.

The Kennedy Drive roundabout in Tweed Heads is underwater, along with Stewart Road and Currumbin Creek Road in Currumbin Waters.

Parts of the Pacific Motorway through the road works on the southern end of the Gold Coast have also been impacted, causing morning chaos for drivers travelling through there.

The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed the city can expect to see more showers across the day, however, the wet conditions are expected to ease by this evening before clearing into a mostly sunny weekend.
