Aussie surfing legend Mick Fanning has been appointed as a project ambassador for Queensland’s first surfing wave park on the Gold Coast.

The $300 million Palm Valley project combines two of the three-time world surfing champ’s greatest sporting passions in surfing and golf.

The surfing lagoon capable of generating “up to a 26-second end-to-end barrelling six-foot wave ride” will be built at Parkwood.

It will sit alongside an existing 18-hole golf course already at the site, which will also undergo a massive $10 million transformation as part of the Parkwood Village proposal.

The project also includes 225 residential apartments, a hotel and retail outlets, as well as an entertainment and dining precinct including restaurants and bars.

The surfing wave park is the single biggest tourism investment in the South East in more than a decade and the biggest build on the Gold Coast since our theme parks.

Pending all goes to plan, the park is expected to open in 2027 with talk it could even host surfing events for the 2032 Olympics.
