A Gold Coast school was thrown into lockdown this afternoon after receiving a written threat.

The alarm was raised at Helensvale State High School at around 12.30pm, with students and staff forced to evacuate for over two hours in scorching hot temperatures.

The school has since been given the all-clear.

Police have confirmed they are investigating and say there’s no evidence at this stage to say it was credible.

The lockdown meant students were held back from their usual finish time, with a letter going out to parents from Executive Principal Karen Lindsay, thanking them for their patience.

“This afternoon we had an evacuation in response to a written threat and contacted emergency services immediately,” the letter reads.

“Upon the direction of the Queensland Police Service, students were released as soon as it was deemed safe to do so. It is important that we take any possible threat seriously to protect the safety of our students and staff,

“The circumstances were difficult for our students, but the safety and wellbeing of your child is always our priority.”

Investigations are ongoing.
