A Gold Coast man has been charged over a terrifying armed home invasion in Ipswich.
The 23-year-old is accused of holding a woman at gunpoint in front of her 9-year-old son after the child answered the front door of their South Ripley home around 8.30am on Tuesday.
The man, from Southport, then allegedly demanded the keys to the mother’s Mazda 3 before he fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.
Police say the car was then involved in a crash on the Bruce Highway around 4pm that same day, before the man did a runner.
He was eventually taken into custody following a short foot chase with officers.
“A search of the vehicle by police recovered various items of interest including ammunition,” Queensland Police said.
The man has since been charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent, attempted robbery (threaten violence armed), driving without a licence, driving UIL, and possessing explosives.
He’s due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
