An exclusion zone remains in place around the Logan Motorway this morning after a B-double truck carrying hazardous materials crashed and exploded.
The truck had been involved in a crash with a stolen Audi near the Kingston exit eastbound around 8pm on Tuesday before bursting into flames.
Eight fire crews were needed to extinguish the fire, which also forced nearby residents to be evacuated due to the toxic smoke.
“A PSPA was subsequently declared due to hazardous smoke and has an exclusion zone along a stretch of the Logan Motorway that encompasses Wembley Road off ramp and on ramp, Station Road, Logan Motorway on ramp and Kingston Road,” Queensland Police said.
“Diversions are in place eastbound on the Logan Motorway and westbound lanes are now open.
“Motorists and members of the public are advised to avoid the area, and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors and close their windows until further notice”.
The driver of the truck managed to escape with only minor injuries, however, those in the stolen Audi remain on the run with a major manhunt now underway.
Investigations are ongoing.
