According to recent research, the great Aussie road trip is gaining traction as a popular travel choice, giving Australians the perfect opportunity to explore our nation’s breathtaking landscapes without burning a hole in their wallets. With cost of living a top concern, a whopping 74% of Aussies are considering a road trip in the next year, and it’s millennials leading the charge—36% of them prefer road trips over other travel options to save on costs.

On average, Aussies embark on about four road trips annually, and it’s not just about saving money. Nearly half of those surveyed revealed their passion for uncovering lesser-known corners of Australia (48%) and the thrill of hitting the open road (43%) as their main motivations for taking a trip.

Courtney Graham, eBay’s Head of Auto Parts and Accessories, captures this sentiment perfectly: “Australians share a unique love of cars that is deeply rooted in Aussie culture, and road-tripping is the perfect way to discover our nation’s vast landscapes without breaking the bank.”

“With the top ten road trips spread across the country, eBay’s research highlights that we’re a nation of explorers. From the rugged outback of the Red Centre Way Loop to the stunning coastlines of the Great Ocean Road or the Great Barrier Reef Drive, our love for the open road drives us to uncover Australia’s beauty.”

Aussies are true outdoor enthusiasts, with the survey showing that caravans (29%), camper vans (18%), and RVs or motorhomes (11%) are among the most popular accommodations for road trips. Plus, one-third of Aussie families (32%) who own a 4X4 hit the road in style!

When it comes to getting their vehicles road-trip ready, research indicates that the vast majority of Aussies (90%) perform thorough vehicle checks before setting off. Common checks include tyre pressure (68%), oil levels (61%), and ensuring their lights are functional (57%). Impressively, more than half (54%) confidently know how to change a tyre should they encounter a flat while cruising down the highway.

So, buckle up and get ready to explore the stunning landscapes of Australia—your next adventure awaits!
