Police have released new images as they ramp up their search for a man following a cowardly attack on a baby boy in a Brisbane Park.

Detectives have managed to get their hands on security vision that shows a man fleeing a playground in Stones Corner on Tuesday after boiling hot liquid from a thermos was poured on a 9-month-old baby.

The infant remains in hospital recovering from serious burns suffered in the attack, which police believe was completely unprovoked and random.

The boy’s parents are now calling for the community to help identify the man responsible.

“My baby boy didn’t deserve this, no one does,” the infant’s mother posted online.

“I wish he poured the hot coffee all over me and not my boy… This man needs to be found and charged.”

The woman urged anyone with CCTV in the area to come forward and contact police.

“It’s torture, I’m supposed to be his protector and I couldn’t protect him,” she said.

“I don’t know who would think that’s okay to harm an innocent little baby”.

The man police are looking for is described as around 30 to 40-years-old, of a proportionate build, with tanned skin.

He was wearing a black hat, glasses, a shirt and shorts.

Detective Inspector Paul Dalton said he had never seen an incident like this before.

“To me, it is callous and cowardly when you look at the circumstances, particularly for us, who are parents, going to a park on a beautiful winter’s day in Brisbane, enjoying your time with your baby, a friend and their baby, and to be approached like this and attacked in this way must be terrifying for that person,” he said.

“Everyone has a right to feel safe in our community, this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated, and we’ve thrown all our resources that we possibly can at it at this stage to hold this person accountable.”

Investigations by the Child Protection and Investigation Unit are ongoing.
