A man has been charged after Police seized $830,000 in cash at Gold Coast Airport.

The man’s bags were red-flagged after raising the interest of a Federal Police sniffer dog and an AFP officer in March as the man was preparing to fly to Victoria.

Officers searched his checked and carry-on baggage where they allegedly found the huge haul of cash.

The 34-year-old Mildura man has since been charged with dealing in the proceeds of crime.

“Organised crime groups are driven by greed and try to hide their ill-gotten wealth from authorities,’’ AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Mary Bolton said.

“Removing the profit from crime is key to disrupting organised criminal activity and delivering maximum damage to the criminal environment.

“The AFP has ensured this money will not be used to fund other criminal activities.”
