A Gold Coast father will front court today after allegedly leaving his three children alone in a car overnight.
The children, aged three, five and six, went missing on Sunday night, sparking an amber alert with police fearing they may be at significant risk.
Following a major search, the children were found at a petrol station in Logan around 7am on Monday.
It’s understood they had walked themsevles there from the vehicle which had been parked nearby.
“The information we have is that they were in the vehicle and they have walked to the 7-Eleven which is nearby and obviously the employee there has contacted police,” Detective Acting Superintendent Mark White said.
“We have our Child Protection and Investigation Unit investigators there with the children. The process that follows now is that they will be medically assessed.
“Because the information we have is that they were in the vehicle overnight, by themselves.”
The children’s father, a 27-year-old Paradise Point man, has now been charged with three counts each of cruelty to children under 16 years and leaving a child under 12 unattended.
“Police will allege the man failed to provide reasonable provision for the supervision and care for three children known to him,” Queensland Police said.
He is due to appear before Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
