A man is fighting for life in hospital following a ferocious unit fire on the Gold Coast.
The blaze erupted at an apartment along University Drive around 1.10am on Monday.
The entire unit complex had to be evacuated as multiple fire crews battled the flames.
A man, believed to be aged in his 40s, suffered life-threatening burns and smoke inhalation.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.
Police confirmed the cause of the blaze is still not known.
A crime scene has been declared, with investigations ongoing.
