A teenage boy has been charged over an abhorrent list that allegedly ranked female students at a Gold Coast high school.
The 17-year-old boy is accused of ranking girls from Coomera’s Foxwell State Secondary College into shocking categories including “abduction material” and “unrapeable”.
Police launched an investigation last month after the list started gaining traction on social media, with the incident officially reported to detectives on May 29.
Following inquiries, a 17-year-old boy from Coomera was charged with three counts of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.
He will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
Senior Sergeant Greg Aubort from Gold Coast District Child Protection and Investigation Unit said the arrest highlights the “serious consequences” of using online platforms to intimidate or harass others.
He said it also serves as a reminder of the importance of “responsible digital and social media behaviour”.
“Police urge the community to remain vigilant and report any instances of cyberbullying or online harassment,” Senior Sergeant Aubort said.
“Such behaviour not only affects the well-being of individuals but also carries significant legal ramifications”.
Education Queensland has confirmed the teen is not a current student at the school or any other state school.
