Move over, Monaco Grand Prix—England’s cheese roll is where the real action’s at! The daring cheese chase took place at Cooper’s Hill in Brockworth, where thrill-seekers tumble down a muddy slope after a three-kilo wheel of Double Gloucester cheese.

Dylan Twiss from Perth emerged victorious in this year’s annual cheese-rolling competition. The cheese reportedly sped down the hill at a whopping 113 kilometers per hour as competitors launched themselves down the 183-meter slope, aiming to grab the prize. Dylan narrowly beat out a British man dressed as a gorilla, securing his win despite nursing a gash on his leg.

With adrenaline pumping, Dylan shared his strategy: “I tried to stay on my feet, but then I started rolling and just had to go with it.” He added, “Every time I got my footing, I took a few more steps.”

Dylan had been confident about his chances since first hearing about the event. It wasn’t his sole reason for visiting the UK, but it ranked high on his list. “I’m slightly surprised I won, but I’m also rather pleased,” he said, addressing his mates back home with a triumphant, “Fellas, I told you I’d win it!”

This zany event attracts global competitors and thousands of spectators, all eager to witness the chaos. Although it’s declared unsafe by advisory groups due to the high risk of injury, it remains a beloved tradition. This year’s race even saw popular YouTuber IShowSpeed sustaining a leg injury.

The origins of the cheese roll date back to at least the 1800s, with theories suggesting it began as a pagan ritual or a way for farmers to assert grazing rights. Despite the inherent risks, Dylan emerged relatively unscathed, stating, “I’ve ended up with five stitches in my knee, but everything that needs to move is moving.”
