A man and woman have been charged after police smashed a major text messaging scam operating out of the Gold Coast.
The couple is accused of sending more than 1.7 million fake text messages about road tolls to people around the country in February this year.
Police allege the pair, both aged 37, tried to direct them to dodgy websites in a bid to steal their money and IDs.
Detectives from the Crime and Intelligence Command Financial and Cyber Crime Group raided their Southport home last month, where they uncovered two SIM boxes and a number of SIM cards.
The Chinese Nationals were arrested and charged with one count each of obtaining or dealing with identification information and using a telecommunications network with intention to facilitate the commission of a serious offence.
They appeared in Southport Court yesterday, where they were granted bail.
The couple will return to court later this month.
