Barry Jenkins’ “The Lion King” prequel has debuted its first footage, unveiling the origins of the iconic ruler of the Pride Lands.
At CinemaCon, Jenkins introduced “Mufasa: The Lion King,” which enlists Rafiki (John Kani) to recount Mufasa’s legend to young lion cub Kiara (Blue Ivy Carter). Simba (Donald Glover) and Nala (Beyoncé Knowles-Carter) are portrayed as parents to Kiara, with Timon (Billy Eichner) and Pumbaa (Seth Rogen) adding their comedic flair.
The story delves into Mufasa’s past as an orphaned cub who encounters a fellow lion named Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), igniting a transformative journey. Flashbacks detail Mufasa’s upbringing and the bonds he forms with a diverse group of characters.
Featuring a star-studded cast, including Mads Mikkelsen and Thandiwe Newton, Lin-Manuel Miranda is set to produce original songs for the film, promising a rich musical experience.
Directed by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins, “Mufasa: The Lion King” is slated for release on December 20, offering audiences a deeper understanding of one of Disney’s most beloved characters.
