Gold Coast skateboarder Arisa Trew has been crowned Action World Sports Person of the Year at the prestigious Laureus Sports Awards.
The 14-year-old beat some tough competition including surfing legends Felipe Toledo and Caroline Marks to claim the honour.
It caps off a big breakthrough year for the teen, who wowed everyone at Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert event in June.
Trew became the first female to pull off a 720 trick, made famous by Hawk who first performed it almost 40 years ago.
“He’s one of my idols and when I landed it in front of him I was just so happy because he invented the trick,” Trew said.
“It’s a really big achievement for me because I didn’t really think I would even be here.
“It’s really exciting and I’m really happy.”
The teen from Palm Beach, who is ranked 14th in the world is still hopeful of qualifying for the Paris Olympics where she will have a chance to emulate fellow Gold Coaster Keegan Palmer who claimed skateboarding gold in Tokyo.
Tennis star Novak Djokovic was crowned Male Sports Person of the Year while Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmati won Sportswomen of the Year.
