Police have laid charges over a violent home invasion in the Tweed which resulted in the death of one man, and left another seriously injured.
It’s alleged a 26-year-old man and his 29-year-old accomplice broke into a home along Oxford Street in Kingscliff around 8pm on Tuesday.
One of the intruders was armed with an axe and allegedly began attacking the “frail” 66-year-old resident who fought back, fatally stabbing the 29-year-old in the chest.
The homeowner was airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he underwent surgery after having his hand partially severed in the attack.
He is now in a stable condition.
The second intruder, who fled the scene leaving his accomplice for dead, was taken into custody at a home in Kingscliff about 5.30pm last night.
He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence.
“Police will allege in court that the man forced entry to the home and assaulted the occupant before fleeing,” NSW police said.
The man was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
