There’s been traffic chaos in Broadbeach overnight after a nasty crash saw power cut to parts of the suburb.

A black Jaguar collided with a taxi at a set of lights at the intersection of Australia Avenue and the Gold Coast Highway around 5.30pm.

The impact of the crash saw the taxi land on top of a small electrical transformer on the footpath.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said Energex had to be called in to repair the damage, with crews forced to cut power to the nearby area before the car could be removed safely.

The driver of the Jaguar, a 54-year-old man, and the driver of the taxi, a 39-year-old man, both escaped uninjured.

However, a 57-year-old male passenger in the taxi had to be hospitalised after suffering minor injuries to his knee and ribs.

The driver of the Jag has since been issued with a traffic infringement notice for $619 for fail to stop at a red traffic arrow.
