Massive crowds are expected at airports across the country today as hundreds of thousands of holiday-makers head off for the Easter break.
Close to 700,000 people are tipped to fly over the long weekend, with today expected to be the busiest day for airports.
More than 120 flights will be arriving and departing on the Gold Coast alone.
While in our major cities, more than 100,000 people are expected through Sydney Airport, with another 50,000 expected through Brisbane.
Travellers are being urged to allow plenty of time, with long queues and delays expected as thousands of Aussies get a headstart on their holiday plans.
It’s not only our airports that will be bracing for chaos, with our roads also expected to bear the brunt of the easter travel rush this afternoon.
“The Pacific Motorway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast typically sees about 170,000 cars every day, my main point being, we are going to see congestion at certain times this Easer,” Joshua Cooney from RACQ said.
Police have already kicked off their annual Easter road safety campaign, which will see additional officers out in force across the South East.
Acting Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski has warned those doing the wrong thing that they will be caught.
“Our police will be out and about on the road,” he said.
“So if you’re going to choose to do the wrong thing here in this state, if you’re going to opt to take risks that are going to put yourself and others in harms way, we will be looking for you and we will take action”.
