There’s a chance Gold Coast beaches could be closed again today due to wild weather.

A hazardous surf warning remains in place for the Gold Coast, with massive swell expected across the city.

It comes after unstable surf conditions forced Council to close a number of beaches over the weekend.

“Due to large swell, strong onshore winds, and big tides some beaches across the Gold Coast are closed,” City of Gold Coast said.

“Lifeguard patrolled beaches are being assessed on an individual basis.

“Please follow the direction of lifeguards and only swim between the flags”.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned the surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming in the following areas.

Surf Life Saving Queensland advise that:

  • People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
  • Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
  • Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
  • Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
  • Boaters should remember to log on with their local radio base and consider their safety management plan.

A call on whether any Gold Coast beaches will be closed will be made around 8am.
