Gold Coasters have woken to a torrential downpour this morning, with heavy rain lashing the city.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning the wild weather could lead to flash flooding.

“A coastal trough located about the southeast of the state is enhancing rainfall across the region,” the Bureau said.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.

“Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Brisbane, Caboolture, Coolangatta, Ipswich and Redcliffe.”

Parts of the Gold Coast, including Oxenford and Upper Springbrook have already seen more than 100 millimetres of rain.

The weather is also believed to be behind a major power outage currently impacting Helensvale and Oxenford.
